Huawei Watch 4 Pro: Access Wear OS Play Store & Google Apps with Gspace

Hello. The following steps (Thanks to RecreativosTecnologicos for the tutorial) provide access to the Wear OS Play Store on the Huawei Watch 4 Pro running HarmonyOS. The Gspace app is used for this. Google Assistant also acts as a bridge for logging in with your Google account in order to be able to use Google apps with your own account.

-Huawei Watch 4 Pro (MDS-AL00) (HarmonyOS: 4.0.0.191(SP36C432E2R1P2))
-Android Smartphone (Samsung SM-S918B, Android 14 / One UI 6.0)

Note

Perform at your own risk! It is not necessary to reset the smartwatch.

Backup

To be on the safe side, back up Huawei Health data to the cloud in the app under Account > Settings > Sync data manually.

1. Enable developer options

A. Set screen on for 20 minutes (optional, so that WiFi and debugging connection are not interrupted)

B. Switch on and connect WiFi (smartphone and smartwatch must be in the same WiFi network)

C. Go to Settings > About > Tap „HarmonyOS/Software Version“ several times until Developer Options are activated

D. Go to Developer Options > Debugging > enable „HDC Debugging“ and „Debug over WiFi“

2. Install APKs

A. Install Bugjaeger Mobile on your smartphone

B. Connect smartwatch and allow USB debugging on smartwatch

C. Install Google Assistant and Gspace APK files. (Instructions) To allow APKs to be installed on the watch, paste and run the „CheckInstaller“ command and the „pm disable-user com.android.packageinstaller“ shell command. At the very end of the APK installation, change the command to „pm enable com.android.packageinstaller“ and run it. Then go to the smartwatch Settings > Apps > Allow permissions for the newly installed apps.

D. Open Gspace on smartwatch

E. In Bugjaeger (Smartphone): Change resolution to „wm density 220“

F. In Gspace (Smartwatch): Tap „Start“ > tap „Continue“ > Data will be downloaded (takes about 15 minutes)

G. Then close Gspace and open it again

(Play Store can be already opened, but will not work yet)

H. In Gspace > Tap the green button at the bottom right

I. Select Google Assistant Go and tap „Clone“

J. Open Google Assistant Go in Gspace

K. Tap „Start Now“ > tap „Add Account“ > Enter your email and password and log in (Tip: Enable Show Password as letters are not displayed while typing on the keyboard)

L. Close Google Assistant Go

M. In Gspace (Smartwatch): Open Play Store

Hints:
-App search does not work in the Play Store, this requires the Wear Store to be installed
-If the app download does not start, turn off WiFi and use Bluetooth connection instead. As soon as the download is running, WiFi can be activated again.

N. In Bugjaeger (Smartphone): Change resolution back to „wm density 310“

3. Install Wear Store (for app search)

A. In Bugjaeger: Install Wear Store APK file

B. In Gspace (Smartwatch): Tap the green button at the bottom right

C. Select Wear Store and click „Clone“ (If Wear Store is not listed, close and reopen Gspace or reinstall Wear Store APK file)

D. In Gspace: Open Wear Store > enter app name in search bar > To install an app, tap the three dots icon and then „Install“. After that, the Play Store page will open and then tap on „Install“.

Optional at the end: Deactivate debugging and developer options again in the settings on the smartwatch.

Now the Huawei Watch 4 Pro with HarmonyOS not only runs with the Huawei AppGallery for downloading apps, but also with the Play Store via Gspace. In addition to the Google apps like Assistant, Keep or Maps, there are also various other apps and games for Wear OS available for the smartwatch.
